Sitting in this hospital, I&#8217;ve got a gloriously fast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coolsmartphone.com\/2020\/10\/13\/another-real-world-5g-test\/\">5G connection<\/a> on Vodafone and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coolsmartphone.com\/2020\/12\/01\/just-in-time-for-christmas-30-days-of-unlimited-data-on-vodafone\/\">unlimited data to enjoy<\/a>. The speeds massively outclass the WiFi in here and it&#8217;s all just so straightforward and worry-free.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-186964\" src=\"http:\/\/www.appsvite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Screenshot_20201221-190633-e1608579898351-700x522-1.jpg\" alt=\"Dont moan about 4G or 5G, you guys dont know youre born!\" width=\"557\" height=\"415\" title=\"Dont moan about 4G or 5G, you guys dont know youre born!\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Back in the late &#8217;90s, phones looked very different. The internet, my friend, was just a <i>dream<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>WAP technology, remember that? I think we can all agree that it was royally terrible on so many levels. Imagine a stripped-down version of a website which has then been stripped down even more, perhaps to a page with 4 links on it, and you&#8217;re almost there. Dial-up for your mobile phone.<\/p>\n<p>Honestly, <i>don&#8217;t listen<\/i> to people who talk about how much of a revelation it was, because the GPRS (anyone remember that) connection was hilariously slow and the overall experience was duller than you could possibly imagine.<\/p>\n<p>This YouTube video gives a little taster of what 1999 was like if you used a monochrome WAP phone (around 20 seconds in)&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"flex-video flex-video-youtube\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Nokia launches its first WAP enabled mobile phone in 1999\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" style=\"width:640px;height:960px;\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0_l8loltCsg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>..and <em>that<\/em> guy was <em>drunk<\/em> when he filmed that. No <em>way<\/em> was he <em>that<\/em> happy clicking through 14 pages to get his cricket scores. <em>No way<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Oh and if you&#8217;re\u00a0<em>really interested\u00a0<\/em>to find out more, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HeSTXotzVDM\" data-rel=\"gallery-video-0\">this unbelievably dry YouTube demonstration will display the full horror<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Back then, these were the phones being offered, but already we were also starting to see lower-priced handsets getting more functionality.
